Purdue University would like to extend an invitation to youth ages 10-14 and in grades 4th through 8th to join our FREE after school prevention program, Afternoons R.O.C.K. in Indiana. Participating youth will enjoy an exciting, active, educational drug and alcohol prevention opportunity. Our programs are offered at various sites in Hendricks County throughout the year. Typically, programs meet two days per week for nine weeks. Our lessons have been developed to include assertiveness skills, communication, community service, cultural awareness, decision making, goal setting, leadership and teamwork development, stress management and various other life skills. Programs also include physical activities, homework assistance and nutritious snacks each day!

Positive Directions manages our Hendricks County programs on behalf of the University. Christine Brown is the Program Supervisor and is a Certified Prevention Professional. She has over twelve years of experience working in this capacity and extensive background in all aspects of youth development. Our prevention curriculum is evidence-based and youth will gain insight into alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse. They will also be involved in activities that afford gambling abuse prevention.

Danville Community Middle School and Plainfield Middle School will both be opening programs in January. Information on additional spring programs scheduled in Hendricks County will be announced soon. For more information and background on this statewide initiative, check out the Afternoons R.O.C.K. in Indiana website: www.rock.indiana.edu
